Research on serious games in the surgery theater
"Games4Heart:Juegos serios para el entramiento de cirurgía cardíaca" is a project from the Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad (TIN2011-24220) that lasted from 2011 to 2013. The team was composed by researchers of the Computer Science Department of the UPC, of the Universitat de Barcelona and of the Universitat Rovira i Virgili. Its aim was to investigate the design of serious games for training heart surgical interventions. It addressed segmentation, modeling and visualization of the structures of the heart from medical images, serious games architecture, interaction and agents in 3D virtual environments. Several other projects such as the Virtual Perfusionist and the master theses of Pol Martí (2012) and Sílvia Vínyes (2015, in collaboration with Dr. Pere Gambús from Hospital Clínic de Barcelona ) took their roots in this project.
